Frequently Asked Questions

I’m anxious that my cat has not come home. What should I do?

By visiting our website you have taken a positive step towards finding your cat. It costs nothing to add their details to our lost pet database, and we will then run our matching service to see whether there have been any found cats fitting that description in your area. We'll be in touch again shortly if there are any immediate matches.

We will also notify local members of our 'pet patrol' with your cat’s description, so they will be keeping a look out whilst they are out and about, and we will keep you informed of any news.

Should I contact my vet?

Yes. It’s important to contact all of your local vets. Most people who find a pet tend to report them to their local vet, so if the vets in the area know that your pet is missing, a match can be made quite easily.

My pet is micro-chipped – do I still need to get in touch with the vet?

Yes, you do. The person who has found your pet may not necessarily take it into the vet surgery to be scanned for a chip - they may simply report the fact they have seen your pet in their local area or in their garden. For this reason, it can be useful not to rely too much on the chip, and to inform the vets anyway.

Do I need to inform my microchip database company?

Yes, do make sure that they have your correct up-to-date contact details. This means that if a vet or rescue centre does scan your pet, they can easily contact you within a few minutes.

I have made my own posters about my missing pet - why are yours different?

One of the reasons our publicity campaigns are effective, is that they offer an opportunity for members of the public to phone our free, confidential helpline 24/7. We are often contacted with information that people may not feel comfortable about offering to an owner directly - for example details of a theft, or road accident, or sad news about a missing pet. Owners usually tell us that they’d rather know what has happened, even if it is sad news.

Can you guarantee to find my pet?

No. As much as we’d love to be able to promise to find every pet that is reported to us, sadly, it is not always possible. However, in our experience, publicity is key to receiving information about missing pets, and with this in mind, we can guarantee there is more chance of finding your pet, or finding out what happened to your pet if you use one or more of our services.
